Something is going on with my truck. Every now and then i get a high pitch siren sound when shifting from 3rd to 4th. I kept thinking I had a cop behind me or maybe an ambulance until I realized it was my truck making the noise. Any thoughts on what this could be? 64' F100 with a 223 and 4 on the floor. Thanks for any input!
I have very poor hearing and locating a noise is a challenge.
The first thing I would do is to check the level of all of the fluids. Transmission, rear end, engine, coolant, hanger bearings, wheel bearings. Next would be the tension on the V-Belts. Next would check the brakes to make sure none are dragging or chattering. Does the noise stop when turning ?
I would think it is the throwout (clutch release) bearing going bad, but that usually makes a squealing whenever you push in the clutch....not just between 3rd and 4th gear.
I'm going to get under there today and check the fluids. Good suggestion! One thing I forgot to mention is it sounds like it's coming from the rear of the truck.
