I’m in need of new side mirrors for my 01F250 Lariat. I see heated mirrors available but my truck doesn’t appear to have any switch. Is it pre-wired, AND does putting on the defroster somehow kick in the power? Noob questions. Sorry. Just not clear if I can use them or not.
thanks!
If there is no switch, you have to add one, and that means you will have to add more than that. I'd rather ask myself if I needed heated mirrors.
My 2011 has heated mirrors and they don't work, and since I live in the south, they are a waste of time. I also have a couple BMWs(535xi), which the one with heated mirrors burnt the coating on the mirror. I replaced that mirror with the right one, and it still doesn't work like I thought it should. As far as I'm concerned, they are just something else to draw current from the battery, which makes you have to replace the battery more often.
There is no switch for the heated mirrors on my 2007. They come on automatically when the temp hits the low 30's. Not sure the exact temps for on / off but there is no user interface for their operation.
I dont have rear defrost, but mine has the digital/electric climate controls....so when you switch it to defrost, it sends a signal to mirror heater wires...if you were to add them to a truck without the electric controls, I would imagine you need to wire in a relay and switch setup....
I broke down and read the manual. For the 2006 model year that I have, the heated mirror function is completely automatic and turns on by itself. There is no way to turn it on or off manually, no matter what options the truck has.
OP you have a Lariat...are you sure it doesn't already have heated mirrors? Mine's just an XLT and it has them
I think in 2001 the mirror heaters come on when the key is on.
I added 2015 mirrors to my 2001 XLT and I had to run wires for them I also added a timer that turns the heaters on for 15 minutes when the key is turned on.
