I have 2016 F250 with upgraded 200 amp alternator vs standard 160 amp alternator (part of the snow plow package). I was thinking of installing a 40 amp DC-DC charger but some of what I am reading makes me think I should scale back to 30 or 20 amp because the current is higher from the alternator. Any recommendations?
My 5er currently has 200 amp hour lithium - no solar - but I could see myself going to more batteries in the future.
Pros & cons of connecting a DC-DC charger to the 7 pin at 18 or 20 amps vs 30+ amp charger from the engine bay?
Does the manual state the max current rating for the seven pin connector? Personally I would run a dedicated circuit from under the hood to a DC to DC charger to handle the fifth wheel but I tend to over engineer everything

Even though our Super Duty had dual alternators, I limited the DC 2 DC charging to 30 AMPS. I had no trouble running our 12' AC/Propane refrigerator on AC and keeping two Battle Born 100 AMP batteries charged while towing.
Is there a problem going from the driver's side battery? It seems the more convenient route to me. I do notice the DS battery is not grounded near it but it seems to be connected to the PS battery where there is a frame connection. I think I will add a frame connection to the DS battery, run the 12v to the Anderson connector in the back along with a local ground from the Anderson.
There's a way to measure the resistance going to one battery or the other, I simply don't have the tools or knowhow to do it. If it was me, I would pick the closest battery to reduce the amount of wire necessary.

My thoughts too. And really it's about the same from either battery as long as I put the Anderson Connector on matching side. Buy, I'd prefer to have all the trailer cables going to the same area in the truck. That's why I plan to go from the DS battery.
