The hardware securing the tailgate to the truck is different but it will fit with modification. If the 88 tailgate is in the salvage yard take ALL the pieces.
I wanted to score a good Bricknose tailgate for my 86 from the salvage yard. I saw it pop up on their website and went the next day after work. It was already gone!
