DEF is DEF?

My 2015 has always had Ford's DEF since it threw all kinds of codes at me one day about regeneration. I had to have a manual regen done by a Ford dealer.
The Ford dealer told me that I had to use Ford DEF and in fact, there was a bulletin that specified Ford DEF ONLY. The cost was not that far off of other DEF products, so I used it. I realize that DEF is DEF--that is there is one formula set by the Petroleum Institute so the manufacturer doesn't make a difference. Also, I know that there are millions of Ford 6.7-liter diesels on the road and they can't all be using Ford-brand DEF. I saw Walmart-brand DEF the other day which is half the price of Ford and Blue DEF.

What brand of DEF are you using? Have you had any problems with the system?

With the exception of the DEF in the tank from the dealer, I've only used Peak Blue DEF to date. With 256k miles all is still good. Last winter I was getting a DEF related message that the truck would go into reduce speed after 50 miles, but then would go away. So far this winter I haven't seen this message.

did have the def heater replace TWICE because of the heater. Which is funny because that truck was in in san diego most of its life

For most of my DEF usage, it's been Walmart brand but have used Motorcraft as well. I have also bought it from Advance Auto also. I do have a couple of the Tractor Supply Traveller brand jugs in my basement now. No problems...

When I read posts like this I am soooooooooooooo glad that I spent the $1800 to have the wasteful emissions deleted from my truck.

I realize that not everyone can do this in their particular region.

I use the same argument on why I bought an electric vehicle. The convenience of charging at home is worth it.

I've been using either BlueDEF or the stuff you get from Caterpillar (I forget the brand they carry). I'd run the Wally World stuff without hesitation also. Sadly, the idiot at the dealer talking out his hind-side is all too common and why I avoid dealers for service.

Ditto. Fill up once every 6800 miles or so.

DEF is DEF. I've run WM, Blue DEF, Rotella DEF, Sinopec DEF, Prime Guard, Valvoline, Blue Sky.. Makes no difference, cause it's all the same.
Next up will be Colonial DEF, 2 for 26 on the WM com site.
Big sale on DEF at Rural King if you have one in your neck of the woods... 8.99 for 2.5 gallons.
Lots of info here, including who makes what brands. You'll be surprised.

with posts like this, I'm so glad I have a pre-emissions diesel truck. I can get 26 mpg if I drive like an old lady but typically I'm in the 22-24 range not towing.

Since about 2015, I've only filled up at the pump at the various fuel stops I pass by. I have no idea what of DEF each gas station carries or if they are even consistent from station to station or month to month. I'm sure they buy it in the 275 gallon totes and probably get the low bid of the month when they need a new tote. I've never had a problem with DEF regardless of what fuel I buy it at. I run 30,000 miles a year. So I go thru a fair of DEF in 7 years of buying it at the pump. Stop wasting money buying it from the dealer and just fill up when you get fuel. Just put it in the right tank

I mostly use Blue DEF. I have also used Casey branded DEF, DEF from pumps and most recently a jug of BLUE Platinum DEF. As little as I have to fill the DEF tank I don't get concerned with sourcing the absolute least expensive DEF I can find.
