Angry help

got a problem, any advice will be appreciated. About 3 months ago my truck had a serious habbit of cutting off while I was driving. The local ford shop ran test on everything and said nothing was wrong and I got it back and it ran fine until now. I had to replace my battery today and as soon as i changed it the alarm on my truck would not go off so i disabled it and took it to my stereo shop.............they found out that i have some kind of electrical prob...............Everywhere under the hood I have 12 volts but under the dash at the ignition I only have 9, but it jumps up and down from 9-12 diff everytime they check it.

help if u can...........

Well that's fine and all, but did you check the voltage regulator? If that's not it, check the regulator. It's gotta be one of those 2.

Although I tend to lean towards agreeing with Joe about the Voltage regulator, which you should still check, you may want to also check the ground wire to your alarm, as these can sometimes cause problems such as yours.

Let us know what you find.

I'm pretty sure it's the alarm ground wire though.

Hmm...interesting. Does your truck have an alarm Strick? If it does, check the ground wire...that may or may not be the problem. Also, I've heard that the voltage regulator can actually jump; causing the ground wire to alarms to go bad. Make sure it's not jumpin.

Strick,

You know me, normally I tend to agree with Joe on repair issues.

However, this time I feel I have to disagree.

I really pretty certain that it's your ground wire to the alarm, and not the alarm ground wire, as Joe suggests.

Also, he is suggesting that your voltage regulator may be jumping and causing a problem with the ground wire.

Well, in my experience, Voltage regulators don't jump...per say, but rather frolic or skip in a jolly type fashion. Although all of this frolicking could tend to be annoying, I don't feel that it's affecting your ground wire. I think that, if anything, your ground wire would simply slap the voltage regular and tell it to "Knock it off".

Hey Strick...you'd better check out that regulator. According to Tom a good kick in the pants will fix it right up! Let it know who is boss ya know! Anyways, I would also check the ground...but I doubt that's it.
