Towing

So, my 1986 F250 stalled on me a few days ago. A week ago I used it for a few loads of cinderblock and it was having trouble keeping up with the speed limit on the hills and I couldn't figure out what it was. Well, now I'm pretty sure it was air in the fuel lines.

I have Consumer Cellular towing (Allstate), and this is the first time I have towed the truck since I bought it from out of state and it needed a ton of work then.

Anyhow, I spent about four hours waiting in single-digit temperatures. The service people kept telling me they were coming and then an hour late, they call again and say they want an additional $180 because I have a big truck.

I went to their terms & conditions and this is what it says:

CONSUMER CELLULAR customers who have a disabled vehicle (i.e., car, small truck or RV under 10,000 pounds, gross weight) and are participating in the Roadside Assistance program are eligible to receive services.

The tow provider they called was coming a long distance out of town and there was a bunch of other nonsense going on. I'm going to cancel their service and move back to AAA or Good Sam. The tow provider says a F250 is a medium duty truck. I said it is under 10,000 pounds and a lot easier to move than a class A RV which they supposedly cover. I'm curious if anyone else has run into anything like this before.

Thanks,

Yep. I had roadside assistance with my insurance. Broke down and called them. First they could not figure out where I was at. Going back and forth with them I got another call from another tow company? They were on their way. Picked me and my family up, took it to a garage, and then said "their credit card machine was broke" and wanted cash. Was $150 for the tow. Finally got back home and called the insurance, the two was supposed to be fully covered and not over $75. They wanted the receipt I had and they reimbursed me only the $75 they are supposed to cover. They supposedly were going to give that tow company an earful also, but I doubt they did.

I had my Bullnose towed in town by USAA American Collectors. The tow company was easy to work with and got me home.

Once I had my 71 Oldsmobile towed through Hagerty and the tow truck operator scraped the exhaust tips along the ground. I left Hagerty after that debacle.

Pretty typical BS from tow companies contracted through an insurance company. Watch a channel on youtube called Casey LaDelle, he's a tow company in Oregon and he has quite a bit to say about insurance companies. He gets called a lot when other tow companies refuse for one reason or another. He always gets them out or home and if it is done for his channel he doesn't charge a dime.
