On my 72 f250, I am going to make a new bracket to carry the under dash speaker. I got one that is the same height but with a 3 inch diameter magnet on the bottom of it. On the original, the magnet had a square of steel around it and that is how it sat in the bracket and then was bolted up under the dash. My question is, can the new magnet touch and set on the new bracket? Or, does it have to have a gap between it and the bracket? I dont know if this makes any difference but I have never installed a stereo before. If that is a problem, I could probably make a bracket to carry the speaker from the top utilizing the mount holes for the speaker itself. I just have no plans on drilling holes through the dash.
Thx Smoky. I was reading around and seeing both ways. I am going to try to make while not touching. I have an extra 1/2" to 3/4" of clearance in there.
2X Smokey. But I would still put something on the magnet to isolate the metal of the magnet and the metal bracket if they do touch. Take away the chance of a squeak. Some speakers are shallower than others. That may be the 1/2' to 3/4" you mentioned.
