Texas Driver License

Don't know about other states, but Texas has changed their driver license renewal process since I last renewed mine.
Received a notice in the mail last month for the renewal even though it isn't due until May.
Said I was eligible to renew online, last time I had to go in so they could test my vision.
Great, I tossed the notice aside and figured I would get around to it.
Nothing to do today and I ran across the tossed notice and decided to go ahead and do it.
Texas has revamped their whole website and procedure for the online renewal, so I went through all their steps, created an account, entered my credit card, blah-blah-blah.
Asked if I could still see as well as my last renewal, and if not if my vision had been corrected (sure).
Submitted the info and paid my $33.
What amazes me, my new license is good for EIGHT YEARS!
Doesn't expire until May of 2031!
Last renewal was for five years, and I think previously was four years.
Another good reason I love living in TEXAS!

New York went to 8 years quite some time ago. But with a CDL my last renewal was something over $150, I think it was $180.

It's because they went to the Star verification on the licenses. They are forcing everyone to renew (have been for the last few years). So, you should now have a yellow star on your license, woo hoo!

Ours is that way in Iowa too. I think my last one was 7 years, I should probably check my permit to carry now that I am thinking about it.

IL is 4 years, at least for CDL, but at least now I can renew my CDL online. Last time I renewed I needed to bring in my birth certificate along with some other bills showing my name and address. It was supposed to be for the Real ID as they were supposedly doing CDL first before all others. I checked and I do not have the Star on my license.

They had just started putting those yellow stars on the last time I renewed so my current license already has that.

The CDL in Texas is now 8 years as well, unless you have hazmat endorsement.

MS is 4 or 8 years, it’s up to the individual. When mine comes up for renewal again I’m going for the 8 year!

We moved to Nevada last May. I have the Non Commercial A License. To my surprise, Nevada has 8 year drivers licenses. I'm good with that!

In Georgia you can do 5 or 10 years. When we moved here, I got a 5 year since I was determined to be back in Alabama in 2-3 years. Here it is 15 years later and I'm still stuck in Hellanta.
