Greetings from the Coast of Central CA. New to the Forum, long time Ford Man (Tech/owner). The newest addition to the stable is a 01 Expedition XLT 5.4 2wd, w/208k on the odo. She came sight unseen and is turning out better than expected. Of course, it needed the whole shmoo underneath (steering, brakes, suspension and drivability), and it was nice to pick it all up over the counter. Cuz, I specialize in discontinued vehicle's, an if you can't find nos you make it. I've pretty much come to the point of needing a shop manual and wiring diagrams in order to continue.
Question? Can I start 1 thread and post all that is relevant to this truck? Reason being My son is a disabled Veteran (TBI survivor), and this way He doesn't have to search to find out what is happening.
Thank You in advance for any and all help
Mike/EZ
Welcome to FTE. Check out the California state chapters and join the one closest to you. You might find a lot of help there.
To answer your question: Yes. Just start your thread as "My Build", Or "our 01 Expy" as examples. Then, every time you do, complete something, you just post to that thread like anyone else would.
WSUP Guys, an thanx for the welcome. I was roaming around last night and run across a few quick fixes. like the loose shifter and the CC recall which is still open on My X. Unfortunate it left Me with more questions than answers., mostly on part interchangeability. So, my learning curve just became steeper. It's not I can't find answers, it's the answers are so conflicting. like towing mirrors, let's see if I got it correct. given the same year let's say 99-02 the mirrors I need are off the F150 crew cab not the extended etc. I understand the connector issue, but I see 2 types of bolt patterns 3 and 4. I assume (that makes an *** out of U and Me LOL) the 3 bolt is the correct one for my X Cuz the 4 bolt is off the f250 and up, but I find part listings that differ. I guess it is time for a bone yard trip and compare.
Adios My Friends (AMF)

Correct Me if I'm wrong please cuz I'm still doing homework. Givin they are the same year model: the explorer/ranger, expedition/F150, excursion/f-250 share similar platforms. I understand there can be some differences between them yet they share many components and those comp9onets can and usually do have different part numbers. With this being true My question is: Is there a sight where I can look up the different components and compare by it's dimensions? Example brake rotors, the 01 navigator and expedition should be a direct swap. Is the F-150 also given all are 5 on 135?? all 3 have different part number's also fitment guides indicate the F-150 is not compatible. Is it bearing size, thickness, diameter IDK? It is impossible to use pic's off the internet to make a determination, so I have a 01 exp/nav 3 book set on the way, so that will have what i need as far as the expedition Now where can I find the rest

I think they're all the same. I found towing mirrors for your car that are the same part between the Exposition and the F-150.

Don't forget the F-250 that was in the F-150 body from 1997 to I think 2004. It wasn't a Super Duty, just an F-150 5.4 beefed up in many ways including 7-lug rims. That might be adding to your confusion a bit.

Just about any reason for a boneyard trip is good enough for me
^ x2
Hi Ho Hi Ho, to the boneyard I go! I am taking the wife to the DR. today in Santa Barbara (the big city LOL). She doesn't know it yet but a stop at the boneyard is on the l[st :-). I did pick up on the f250, and had my fingers crossed it might be a possible donor for a brake upgrade, also I have a line on a hood from the lighting (I can pick it up cheaper than repainting My hood). Rock auto is a good source for info. Only issue I have with Rock Auto is trying to decide if the cheap part, or expensive part is worth the difference. Rock Auto used to be more reasonable than the local AP store, but these days with shipping and tax they are comparatively close an it is usually on the shelf.
On another note, After I get My pic's loaded, I'll post My stable for show and tell.

My research concludes that 97 to 02 Expedition. and 97 to 05 f-150/250 most chassis components do interchange, with small variations/exceptions.
As always if I'm incorrect with My next anlage please correct Me.
variables/exceptions can be trim level, or the front clip should swap out, but the cab would probably need to be a crew cab to fit the Expedition. Another group of variables are specialties components for the SVT/Tribute models I"m not saying these parts will not fit. I'm saying These Part will need to be physically inspected to determine if they will interchange (some will, some wont). I'm talking direct interchange not modify to fit. I have my fingers crossed on the front clip area because I can see in my minds eye some off road styling, giving me a larger pool of doner vehicle's. So, am I headed in the right direction or am I just spewin puckey. LOL

PS: "Sound Abatement In Progress" Those of you in the back thar are adding ambient noise to the equation,
" PLEASE HOLD IT DOW"
It becomes a necessity when working with discontinued assets. If you can't find NOS you adapt something, and if you can't adapt something you make it. This serves me well at work and play.
If you find the right donor vehicle or sometimes vehicle's, you can build on the cheap. Don't get me wrong it is nice to run to the part store and pick up a needed part OTS but damn these days that's a chunk of change. I started with Ford Cortina's, I dismantled everyone I could find in CA and AZ. My friends thought I went wackamole. I was selling and trading parts to get more Cortina's. I had an entire car except the chassis cleaned panted polished and ready for install, stored in my closet. When the right one landed on My doorstep it took 4 days to assemble a completive 68 lotus Cortina ready for autocross in the stock class (down to the fuel pump LOL). From then on it has been an obsession to repair what others think is unrepairable. Now that I'm retired, I am focusing on bicycles. I get the impounded bikes form the cops, fix em up and give them out to persons in need of transportation. I work on a sliding scale. Tell me a story and the better it is the less the bike is :-). Also when I'm talking with you if you say the secret word, You win a free bike Wohoo ! The kids around here have nicknamed me the BicycleBoneYard cuz of the stash of bikes at my house (and it keeps getting bigger). The bike are why the Expedition came to us. We needed something bigger to haul bikes and the expedition was only 500$. I told the wife I wasn't going to go all in on this on cuz it was going to be a work trk, well the wen out the door in a big hurry LOL!!!!! Now I have visions of Expedition's dancing round My Brain. What to do What to do, I know what to do, go all in and not tell the wife just let her find out. It is better to get forgiveness, than ask for permission. Enough of the BS, time for some fixin. I need to bounce on over to My CAI thread and finish up the intake, then post some initial dB readings for noise abatement. Mike/EZ
Fun Fact For The Day:
The Cortina was the predecessor to the pinto. Ford decided to end the ENFORD program (English Fords), so ford gave the engineering team a list of leftover parts and had them design a car and Bamm the pinto was born. 71-73 pinto internals were 62-68 Cortina internals. I had such a hard time convincing parts people of this. If I even mentioned the word Cortina their response was we got no Cortina parts. As you can guess natural progression was, to move into pintos and did. Another crazy fact is there were less than 10 key patterns for the Cortina, It was almost like having a set of Fleet keys. LOL I learned this one day by getting into the wrong car and driving away before I realized it wasn't Mine "Opoos My Bad" LOL .
Have a great day All Mike/EZ
Cortinas—-and AutoX’d? Gives out rehab’d bikes to folks in need? AND retired? What a cool dude.
I just passed “minimum” retirement date January 19th—- I’ll be following your posts for how to stay righteous and relevant when I pull the trigger.
Kudos.
