So I need to replace the horrible shocks on my completely stock 22' F350 CC SRW with FX4 pkg. In the past I have always used the 5100's but they are now listed only for lifted trucks. When I looked at the specs, specifically the compressed and extended measurements, they are almost exactly the same. Given that, why are the 5100's listed as only for lifted trucks and would they be fine to run on a non-lifted truck??? If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated!

I can’t tell you if the 5100’s would be fine to run on a non-lifted truck, but I can share this info that Bilstein sent me.
Here’s Bilstein’s email reply to my question about what the differences are between the 4600 and 5100’s…
Hello Marcus,
Thank you for contacting Bilstein. The only thing that is different is the extended length in front between 4600 & 5100, valving are identical front & rear. Thank you.
Kind Regards,

Hilarious how their own specs contradict themselves... Still can not figure out how being 0.03" longer collapsed and 0.31" longer extended makes it only suitable for a truck lifted 2-2.5".
Buy the yellow ones if this actually looks like a concern to you.
same valving, The 5100 are listed for up to a 2 inch lift and the 4600 are stock. 4600's are more economical. I had 5100's on a 2015 f250 and they were Great. They also look better than the 4600 imho. I will probably go to the 4600's on my new f350 when the time comes
4600 is painted yellow and blue while the 5100's are zinc plated
I kind of thought that but is the zinc plated going to be better for someone where they salt the roads?
I had the yellow ones on my old truck and they were fine for where I live...so I would probably get them again when the time comes.
The main difference between the two series of shocks is the 4600 are mainly for running the hwy. The 5100 mainly are for lifted trucks and using off road, hence the longer length. No difference in valving just extended length. If you don’t go off-roading and stick mainly to the hwy save money get the 4600, unless you like the zinc coloring.
