ok.....here we go....19,000 miles....tranny replaced at 300 miles, yes 300....i saw the new tranny........ok.at 15 G.......replaced ALL fluid and filter............ok.......no problem till last night. i hauled *** down the interstate to pick-up chinese (85mph-95mph), came home, shut down...........1/2 hour later start up...........high whine that comes down as idle decreases.....still there ........drive truck ...all ok....but feels different........seems more solid.........in drivetrain.........shifts fine.....but feels like something is locked?............this is a 350 4x2 auto?.....put in neutral whine increases as idle increases / decreases in gear. i think / but not sure, torque converter locked up...is this possible?
Your agressive driving may have invoked the adaptive learning process of the transmission which could yield a slightly different "feel" in shifts & shift points.
If everything is working OK in the tranny, check the pulleys and serpentine belt on the engine. Perhaps something is amiss there.

the level is up to normal, red as can be!. noise is there in reverse and with OD locked out........i failed to mention, that the other day in normal driving doing about 45-47mph(i do drive slow also ) going down hill the trannie did a very abrupt downshift to 2nd the speed and the harshess of that downshift caught my attention because it was not a normal speed for it to do that on its own..........i know what my truck should do and sound like, you know what i mean.....after that the whine appeared!!.........i know it has to go in, but i am picking minds because i want info to throw back at the dealer when the try to tell me it's normal!
It could be possible that the VSS sensor in the rear diff is getting dirty and giving false ifo to the pcm .are you having any other wierd things speedo quiting, overdrive light flashing.
You drive slow !!!!!!!!!! no way
I saw you on the Northway one day 2-3 in am
over 100.

no all is ok..........when the 1st trans. went od lite was flashing.........not now. i will throw this at you , is the fluid the dealer uses different than factory breakin fluid?..........just wondering because as you know cold has arrived!
you must be local?...i fish champlain, george, and this year tried Brant for the first time. i have fished saranac BIG pike in there ........you have a boat? i have a starcraft superfisherman 19'6 with a 125 merc..........i am always looking for fishing partners as crazy as i.........i keep my travel trailer between hague and ticonderoga as a home base.........10 minutes from champlain launch and 5 from rogers rock launch..........have you really had 40 fords?
Perhaps they used Mercon V when they should have used Mercon... or vice versa! However, one would think that a fluid problem would have shown itself by now. I guess a little hard driving could have caused it to break down though.
Sure is tough to diagnose. Perhaps a trip to the dealer for "documentation" purposes is in order- in case it goes out, you can show that you were concerned beforehand.

did the dealer thing today.........i grabbed the tech that is supposed to be the xpert before the advisor knew i was there .........he was the guy that did the original trannie change..........he said possible tq-converter noise. it goes in thursday....i will keep you all posted........good point on the mercon, but i find it hard to swallow the wrong stuff was put in....i drive fast but i do not beat the truck.......just a gradual up to 65mph and level off at a comfortable 75-80........sometimes do a quick 95 just to make sure the old truck is worth keeping! i hear that converter from the new trannie that is bolted to the 6.0 oil burner will bolt right in to my trannie /4r100.......if it a do/able i might see if the dealer will take a chance...........
I'd be surprised if the TC from a 6.0 PSD would fit. They use the new Torq-shift 5 speed auto. Plus, the stall speed would be all wrong... but you never know!
