Hood liner project
Install thread:
Went ahead and got the hood liner kit. Precut pads for the single layer areas and the ABS cover from LMC truck. Don't usually deal with them but all the kits seem to be Acousti Hood from Quiet Ride. Not sure when to do the install yet. It appears to be much easier to install with the hood off but I don't have anyone to help with the R&R. Debating whether to do it on the truck. Not as spry as I used to be. the hardest part will be sealing down the edges of the pads with metal tape.
Notes:
It appears that Ford must have offered the insulation from the factory. The holes to attatch the cover are already in the hood except for two on each side.
I think once you put it on theres no going back due to the glue for the insulation pads. Hate to ruin good paint.
Carefull pulling the ABS pad out of the box. It really wants to lie flat and will jump out at you and the edges are quite hard and a little sharp.
It might be a llittle while before I start, but I'll take some pics to document the process. Quiet Ride has a video on their website.
And down the rabbit hole we go!
(thats also the title of a playmate book about the Hefner mansion.)

Sharpie mark the hood hinges positions of the under side of the hood, crack out the cherry picker. Once the bolts are out, lower the picker arm all the way. Then push completely away from the truck and get on the back side edge and slide it down the the corners. Have your blankets pads already in place. Almost like a monkey wrestling a football, way easier with 2 people. You mean you do not have even 1 FTE member near you?
Post up some pics of the soundproofing progress. Looking fwd to it.

I wonder if anyone still makes a "mirror" panel kit for under the hood, i did a quick search and couldn't find one. A guy in the local car club back in the early 90's bought one for his '76 F250 and me and my father helped him install it. They were just pre-cut polished S.S. panels with self adhesive on the back. I thought it was kinda tacky, aesthetically, but it made working under the hood so much brighter.

So does one of these and it is less "tacky" looking. https://www.harborfreight.com/2100-l...ack-59170.html

With the straps supporting the hood you can then unbolt it raise the hood more with the straps and back the truck out.
Then you can do what you need to to the hood.
My hood was off and I needed to install if before painting so I hung the hood with straps and drove the truck under the hood and then lowered it and bolted in place.
I also hung the bed (flare side) from the rafters for painting. Dont have picture of the hood

Yeah, great product! I picked up a couple over the years.
And also Delta, the company that makes or are used to make the bed boxes, had an option for one of those for their truck bed boxes.
They didn’t market them very well, and almost nobody ever knew about it even at the parts stores.
Probably don’t carry them anymore because for some reason they didn’t sell many!
