Vibration
During moderate acceleration between about 25 and 45 I feel
a vibration ..feels like it is in drivetrain. If I accerate slowly there is no vibration.
I just had the driveshaft universals checked, front and rear ...mechanic said they are fine.
I am wondering if this could be an issue with the front half shafts.
Any opinions ?
Thanks
After several trips back and forth to the dealer's service department and phone calls to Ford's Service Technical Support Group......it was determined that this vibration accompanied by a metallic grinding noise coming from the "front drive axle area" was caused by the automatic clutches in the front wheel drive transfer case. They told me that it was normal, and that it was an inherrent part of the 4 wheel drive system, and because it was normal.....there was nothing that could be done to fix it.....because there really wasn't anything wrong with it!!
I just sold the vehicle with 167,000 miles on it.....and since the noise/vibration began 87,000 miles ago, the noise/vibration never got any worse!!
Just got vehicle back from mechanic ....they checked all U-Joint ...found no problem. A friend suggested it could be worn front half-shafts or a rear driveshaft issue.
Thanks.
