97 Hub Assemby
Hi all, first i live in Australia and own a 1997 Explorer, the problem i have is there is a bad noise coming out of my front hub,i took it to Ford and they say i need a new hub, at $1000 aside i was hoping if someone knew of a cheaper way of fixing it.Also whats this i here about the motor blows up when the timing chain starts trattle.

I hear they are about $150 aftermarket here and $300 from Ford. I have some front end problems I am trying to trace down and there is no end to the parts you can put in. My 97 has 145K miles. Done lower ball joints and tie rod ends. Still have to do bearing on transfer case and one hald shaft. If that doesn't cure it a hub. If you don't have play in the wheel, it might be dirt in the hub seal. The Hub removes with 3 bolts after removing the spindle nut. There is a seal on the end of the half shaft that rubbs. The hub cavity needs to be cleaned out once in a while if you want the bearings to last.
