4.0 OHV Ring Gap
4.0 OHV Ring Gap
It's a while friends. Refreshing my wife's 2000 Explorer (daily driver) and have a problem confused about the proper ring gap (top compression ring) going back together. Here's my gathered logic and need all your help for decision...
1. Old ring gap was .035" bore is clean no wear and had 160+psi 170psi with a squirt of oil.
2. STD sized replacement ring kit ring gap is .028"
3. Ford & Haynes manual call for .015" to .023" top ring gap
4. Ordered .010" oversized rings that have almost no gap.
5. Formula to determine ring gap is bore (3.9543) X .0045 = .018"
Which choice do I make?
