What guage wire?

Its it wise to go to a larger guage wire so that I can power an amplifier as well as other goodies such as CBs, gps and such off the same battery wire. I wiring in a 400 watt amp, and was going to run an 8 guage wire to in but I though about running a 4 guage wire and then also power other items from the same wire.

I'd agree-
especially if you tend to run full bore for long periods, then you should go with a heavier gauge. And if you want to use the power conductor as a feed to distribute to several devices, then I would reccomend that you install the #4. You can run the #4 to a distribution block- they make standard car stereo ones that are about $20 or so and have various splits like a 1 in/ 4 out, etc. These are cigarette pack sized insulated metal blocks that you mount near your equipment; they have a large lug to land your feeder (in) cable, and anywhere from 2 to 4 or more smaller lugs to land your branch circuit (out) wires. Keep in mind that the feed cable should be fused very close to the battery connection.
