Transmission help

Hey, can anyone tell me what the difference is between a transmission code of F5TP-AB and F5UP-DB is? My friend is looking for a transmission for his truck and it lists these 2 numbers and he doesn't know which one he needs. Thanks.

First number is a Ford AOD Transmission
Second number is a Ford E4OD Trans

Search those two types and you'll get all the diffences and applications.

From the information provided by Sandy those are completely different transmissions. The only thing they have in common is that they are 4 speed overdrive. What transmission is in your friend’s truck? Is there a push button on the dashboard or the end of the shifter stalk to turn overdrive on and off?

We don't know yet which one is in his truck. The previous owner replaced the transmission but , it's not the right one. The connectors on it don't match the truck and it doesn't shift/drive right. I can ask him if he has the button on the shifter or not. Thanks for the information. I did Google those part numbers and pretty much got nowhere. I'm pretty sure it has it on the shifter. The trans code is E, which I know is the E4OD. His truck has the 5.8 liter gas engine if that helps.

No 5.8L truck ever had an AOD. He needs an E4OD.

And not just any E4OD, he needs one compatible with the model year of his truck, compatible with a 5.8L engine, and a match 4x2 or 4x4.

we know he needs an E4OD but, we don't know which one. He looked up transmissions on a parts website and it listed the 2 part numbers above but, we don't know which one he needs as the original transmission is not in the truck. It's a 2 wheel drive. That's all we know other than it's the 5.8 liter. It's a 95 F150, 2 wheel drive with the 5.8 and pretty sure the O/D button is on the end of the shifter.

Then he needs an E4OD from a two wheel drive 5.8L truck. I don't have the numbers for that.

Okay. Do you by any chance know if these numbers are compatible and or if there are differences between the 2 or if these would work in his truck? F5TP-AB and F5UP-DB

The two transmissions I listed in post 2 are not compatible. The E4OD is electrronically controlled and the AOD is not. The E4OD is a good transmission and as was stated it is THE ONE for the truck.

I got it sorted out. I knew he needed a E4OD but, didn't know if there was a difference between the two part numbers I posted in the beginning. Turns out either one will work. After some exhaustive digging, I figured out one was in a F-150 and the other was in a E-150. So, the difference was, one is a truck, the other a van which, according to everything I found, will work in his truck quite nicely. Thanks to everyone for the help.
