I have a 1983 300 L6 on my hands. It starts up just fine but cuts out and dues after about a minute if I let it idle or if I give it more than about 50% throttle. I've changed the sparkplugs, cap and rotor. I think that the carb might be bad and is just flooding the engine but I'd like to hear other people's opinions or if they've dealt with the same issue.
Welcome to FTE
You know we have a area just for 80 to 86 trucks and you may get more people to reply up there?
So is the carb flooding over and if so that needs to be fixed before moving forward but .......
I cant remember when the feed back system came into play and need to know if you are dealing with a feed back system or not and do you need to pass smog check like in Cali?
To check if feed back or not there are a few things to look for.
The dist. does it have a vacuum hose going to it or a bunch of wires?
The carb also have wires going to the top left (when in the drivers seat) front of the carb?
On the firewall on the left side kind of behind the head / valve cover is there a oval plug with a bunch of wires coming out of it?
Pictures of the dist and a few of the carb we can also tell you what you got.
Answering the questions above we can then point you in a direction that would be best.
BTW if you ask the same question in the 80 - 86 area you will be asked to same feed back out not question LOL
