I have the 2002 F-250 5.4L 2V CCLB 4WD flavor and just swapped out my old Air intake manifold with a brandy new one. My Fuel Rail has a bunch of rust on it and figured why not, let's replace it. I was at LKQ (pick and pay) and noticed some on the F-150's and Excursions (there was not a single F-250 in the lot!!). Can I take one of any (V-8 in the Ford family) and call it a day? Will an Excursion 8 cylinder be an exact match? I'm guessing that if I stay in the universe of F-250's and Excursions' (V-8's) I should be okay. I would make sure to match the profile of my current one to the one I am about to harvest. Fuel Line Questions:With regards to the fuel rail, do the connections at the rear on the driver side (to where it connects to the fuel lines that trace downward to the frame rails) at that connection point, are the fuel line connectors part of the fuel rail set-up? Mine are kind of rusty and I didn't try to remove them during the Air Intake Manifold install. We just pushed them aside. These connection points (3/8 and 5/16") are rusty to so it's another reason I want to find a donor fuel rail with no rust and no rusty connectors. Anyone?
The fuel lines are one piece, where they connect to the rail. The biggest hurdle will be disconnecting the lines the rail. You'll need the garter spring coupler disconnect tools to uncouple them.
I'm pretty confident they're all interchangeable between the 2v's 4.6 and 5.4s. I'd just make sure to get something of the same year, or as close as possible, to yours just to make sure all the connectors are the same. Ford changed a bunch of elec. connections over the years, but the fittings and QD's seemed to have stayed fairly standardized over the years.
How bad is the rust? I live in the snow/salt country and I've never seen them so bad a quick sand and painting didn't clean them up nicely. You can get new o rings and springs to rebuild the QD connections if the insides are rusty.
