Hey, Everyone! I have a truck I am working on converting to a 7.3L powerstroke. Well, That's not quite accurate. Its a T444E out of an international truck that I am converting electronically to a PSD, and then putting in my 1984 F350 that originally came with a T19 Manual. I have a few questions about this conversion and parts that I will need.
First: does the T19 4-sp Manual have the same bellhousing pattern as the 7.3 powerstroke and ZF-5?
second: do I need the spacer that the automatic trans PSDs have between the engine and trans? or can I do without?
Third: Will the clutch and flywheel off the 6.9 IDI work on the 7.3L PSD?
As for the conversion of the T444E to a PSD, While I have the ECM and IDM for the truck, and the entire harness for the engine bay of the truck it came out of, I am looking for a ford PCM to replace the ECM with. International has chosen to refuse to work with me since the engine will be going into a truck they didn't build or sell. So if you have for sale a PCM for a manual trans truck around 1995, please PM me so we can talk price.
the final goal of this conversion is to have the 7.3 PSD with a ZF-5, but I cant afford a ZF-5 right now so I'm keeping the factory T19 4-speed manual. This is a 2wd service truck that I am working on getting able to keep up with traffic and able to haul a camper for when I visit my family in my hometown.
thank you for any constructive input you can provide!
The bolt pattern for the T19 bell housing on the 6.9, and the ZF5 for the 7.3 are the same. the Fly wheel for the 6.9 will not work on the powerstroke. They make a single mass flywheel conversion kit for the Powerstroke. I think I paid around $350 for the kit from NAPA when I did my last one, but that was several years ago. Ford used an adapter plate between the block and the transmission, I know if IH used an adapter in between the tranny and the block.
The IH engine I have came with a mechanical Allison AT542 A/T, but I want to end up with OD, and my truck is a manual trans truck to begin with. The IH adapter converts to an SAE bellhousing pattern for medium and heavy duty transmissions.
Will the Adapter I need be something like this ebay listing? https://www.ebay.com/itm/195487520862
I'm hoping my research is correct, but it looks like the ebay adapter I linked in my last reply is what I need. I'm just hoping to get some confirmation on it before I pull the trigger on purchasing one.
