Has anyone experienced a pull in your truck that was attributed to the power steering system? My truck has a slight pull to the right and I've looked for all the causes I can think of, alignment, brake drag, tire issues and haven't found anything. The steering turns noticeable easier to the right than it does to the left whether I'm moving or not so I'm starting to suspect that the power steering might be inducing a slight pull. I was going to pull the power steering belt and see if that made the pull go away but have not done that yet. Is there a rebuild kit available for the power steering gearbox? Or is there a "balance" procedure for the power steering? There is a balance procedure for the early Corvettes but that uses a completely different type of power steering system with a hydraulic ram.
Jack up the front so the wheels are off the ground. Start the engine and check if the steering wheel turns by it self.
If the steering stays then the problem is with the front suspension. There is a shim in the control valve of the power steering box that centers the shuttle valve, if the shim is the wrong size that will cause the steering box to create a pull.
The 2 best steering box rebuilders are either Red Top or Blue Top.
