V10 Head Removal

Anyone out here had the heads off their truck? I got my Ford service DVD yesterday, and it says to remove the engine. Looking at it, it seems to be possible to get them off while still in the truck, but I don't want any surprises.

Manual also said to remove the passenger inner fender well to remove the exhaust manifold, but I got it off with no trouble at all while the fender well was still in place.

If I have to pull the engine, I may as well beef up the bottom end while I'm at it . It seems like I read somewhere that the Ford factory crank was very strong and shouldn't be replaced. Are forged pistons all I would need? Are windage trays available for these, or do they have one already?

From: Gretna ,LA.
The stock cranks are steel, with crossbolted mains-STRONG!
Now it seems like i saw some rebuild pics and they do have some sort of windage tray.

Also remember the bolts are trq to yield type, and cannot be reused.

Yeah.....you can take the head off in the truck.........but it's a pain in the butt......and the reason ford tells us to pull the engine is because when going back on with the head you have a higher probabal chance of messing up the head gasket when tryin to put the head on. Cause it's REALLY akward going back in
and the bolts are not re-useable......thats for head bolts main bolts rod bolts......even the crank bolt for the dampener you're supose to replace
