Recently swapped my 5R110 transmission for a used unit on my 2003 F250 6.0 Powerstroke due to losing the direct clutch (3-5 slip and shudder in reverse). The used transmission shifts great but has a minor leak at the top of the transmission. It appears it is coming out of the vent (checked with a mirror and flashlight) indicating an overfilled condition but I got the trans up to operating temp (160F) and checked the fluid (truck running in park) and it was underfilled (no fluid on the dipstick). The pan was drained on the used transmission so I added 7.5 quarts in so far after it was installed.
Does anyone know why else it would push fluid out of the vent? Is there a difference in the dipstick lengths (the original transmission was 2003 the used unit is 2004)?
