I can't even remember what computer I was running in 1999?
But since this thread was revived I have a question that doesn't really fit anywhere so here is as good as any.
When I took my 460 truck to NAPA the guy came out and looked at it with me. He had a tip for fuel mileage that he was told about by a Ford service tech and that he had tried with great results. Apparently there's a fuel reducing tee back by the tanks that goes bad. I don't understand how it goes bad but this guy Bill said it took his old skool 460 powered motorhome from 10 to 14mpg (yeah right) once he replaced it. Has anyone heard of that being an issue before?
I think mostly the ford tuning sucks.
I had modded my 460 where the 24lb injectors weren't enough so I added 30s. Ran rich at idle but ran super strong upper end.
I never got a custom chip made cause back then it was real expensive. If I had the truck still I'd leave speed density on it and just get a custom chip made to compensate for most items.

That's just the cross flow problem with the FDM. I would be willing to bet he just thought he got better mileage since he was not putting part of the fuel in the other tank.. Ford cheaped out and didn't replace the FDM and just put check valves external to the tanks to solve the cross flow problem
ive heard that a 460 swap in the 1992-1996 body half ton trucks is a relatively easy swap, and in fact L&L seems to have a pretty good kit to get the job done. my problem is that I'd like to do this in a gen 1 lightning. with a kid on the way, my plans are to have a long-term project to do with my son over the years, and a ground pounding 460 gen 1 lightning would be just the trick.
that being said, there aint no carbs on no lightnings ever, and it just aint right in my eyes to PUT a carb on a lightning, especially if it's gonna be driven on the street. the question(s) i have is/are basically the logistics of dropping an EFI 460 (and we know there were PLENTY of those in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks up until 1996...or were they in the 97 trucks too?), so the parts are out there. what would need to be done to a half ton truck to get a 460's EFI system to work right (and obviously convert it over to mass air while I'm at it, cause boost is GONNA happen).
I should have noticed this was an old thread when I was reading about the Kenne Bell and Vortech superchargers without any mention of how rare they are; a thread from '99 means they were still probably available new.
I'd rather see you put a 427 or a cheap 393 stroker in the lightning instead of a 460.
The 460 is so heavy and the efi heads need work to be impressive, and no head interchanges with the efi 460 intake, and there are no aftermarket efi 460 intakes.
Get a set of alum 351 heads and a stroker kit and you're golden.
Lots you can do with what you already have.
Unless you're dead set on 460 swap, buy the kit from L&L and find a new 2wd trans for the 460, and use all existing wiring from the lightning, and pop in a 460 e4od ecu and you're done. It's pretty easy.
Then gather stuff to convert it to maf. Use a different ecu and you can get tuning software and then the real fun happens.

yeah, ive been searching a LOT for superchargers that will work on a 460, and ive found that kenne bell USED to make kits for this motor, but hasnt in a very long time, and theyre nearly impossible to find anymore. it looks like if there is to be a supercharger installed, it will have to be centrifugal.
