Having seen some of the clips for the new movie Devotion, I had decided that I wanted to see it. On New Years Eve, my wife and I went to the theater and got seated about 20 minutes before the scheduled show time. About 5 minutes before the show, friends that I've known about 20 years entered the theater and coincidentally sat next to us. We watched the movie, and afterward had a lengthy discussion on it.
The guy happened to know Tom Hudner, having met him when he was a lieutenant and on active duty. His wife had sat next to him at a banquet and by all descriptions was quite intimidated about sitting next to the Congressional Medal of Honor winner. I learned a lot more from our postmortem than I did from the movie, but in fairness the story is more about Jesse Brown.
I didn't care for the way the movie ended. It really seemed counter to the trailers I'd seen on TV.
It's certainly worth watching, but probably not the price of admission. Watch it when it comes to TV or a streaming service.
Noted, thanks. I'm more of documentary type, I like a good story, but facts are what make a good story about great Americans great, appreciate the heads up.
Yep, I will wait to stream it, just as Maveric will wait also.
12 O'clock High is real enough for me in a B-17, I read the book as a kid.
I thank you pilots who support the ground troops. Thank God the Saber
got there in time to help with Air Space control of the Soviet pilots training the North
and flying those Migs into Combat. At that time the Soviets probably had
the best Combat pilots with all the hours they flew in WW ll. Ours had gone home.
or were training on the Jets to come into active service.
I do believe there was a piston engine fighter the AD4 Skyraider that did well
in the Korean Conflict as a Ground Troop supporter. They were led into combat
toward N.K. factories By the Navy's 1st Jet fighter aircraft.. Scarry for sure.
Later day Thinking well always of the Warthog and its service for our troops.
On a good day or two those strikes can make a difference.

(No spoilers here.) The timeframe of the movie is about the time the U.S. was moving from propeller driven to the Saber, but it has no impact on this movie. The movie starts flying in non-military settings. I'm looking at the planes and thinking "what are those? I just don't recognize them!" About 2, 3 minutes in I've got a head slapping moment and realize that they're flying trainers, NOT combat planes.

Prices would be barely okay but with the louts, morons and cell phone talkers inside the theater a return to some degree of public civility would maybe lure me back.

The oblivious that are playing games, texting, etc. on their cell phones during the movie need to be punished. Nothing that happens to them should reflect on the executioner.
There's a reason that the expression "because he needed killing" came to be!

There are some Politicians who believe the constant killing on games with Cell phones, well the games needs to end. There are studies that show many Teens do not know right from wrong (they simply don't comprehend what they do) until they got kids of their own and still some never get it.... I can bet that the games then will be sold on the street with the stollen illegal firearms. There are those who believe wrecking public safety is good for them ! Most likely there are about as many Cold, selfish, Calloused uncaring People out there as there are Big Hearted caring people out there. Thats just a guess coming with experience.
You know Harley that just might work with the Shooters. Most likely with no safety training programs they would just finish themselves off. .....
There are those that claim that seemingly endless "gaming" hours of violence and death that get reset with the press of a button have no impact on anyone.
They are not the same folks that authorize spending $3,500,000 for a 30 second Superbowl commercial to get you to buy something.
Every Sunday my bride and I would go to a movie in the morning and grab some lunch on the way home. I considered that a good day though it was costly, it was time well spent together.
Now it seems that I have eight streaming services plus cable all giving us access to hundreds of channels and shows, most of which I have no interest in. It's hard to justify the $50-60 for the movie plus $50 for a heavy lunch to carry us the rest of the day. Now I send her off to Bingo with her friends and I enjoy my wood working projects and some alone time.

From an early age of 5 y/o it was a monumental cool thing to go to a movie with the parents: Loony Toons on a 60' wide screen really, really captured and somewhat overwhelmed the visual and audio senses of a kid out on an adventure with the folks. As you mention time spent together simply enhanced the experience, making for memorable times.
It our nearly 9 years together the girlfriend have been to no more than 10 theater movies, most of those times when we were out of town for something and spending the night. Going through the entire process of getting ready to go, traveling a short distance to the theater, eventually finding a suitable seat, sharing some costly snacks made for a delightful evening.
As public courtesy and decorum faded into more and more chaos going to the movies became a chore with little to no real enjoyment. These days I prefer spending time with the girlfriend almost regardless the "what" but us being together is the goal, in the end the truly fun of the evening. This weekend at some point we'll be attending a local model train show, her idea.
With so many alternative choices financially it doesn't make a lot of sense to drop $100 on being dropped into a pool of rude inconsiderate people when staying at home is better if enjoying the actual movie is important. I have absolutely zero cable or internet access on my TV, choose to buy a Blu-Ray DVD when something pops up that might be entertaining. The expense is one issue, the lack of content interesting to me making it hardly worth it and both factors together contributing to why I don't use the streaming etc services.
If one wants to enjoy the "home theater" experience there's no shortage of amazing hi-tech equipment that's fascinating and quite the thrill all at your fingertips inside your own living room.

That and the fact I can pause the movie at any time to go pee or grab a snack or any other reason. Movie theaters do not give one that kind of freedom of choice not to mention having to breathe the air of all those germ bags sitting around us, uncomfortable seats, sticky floors, screw that.
I put a 75" flat screen on the wall and added a high powered stereo system to create my own theater that I control all aspects of. Patience is the key for new movie previewing, stream it when available. Perhaps the motion picture industry will eventually realize this when people get tired of all the bs they have to deal with in a theater and kill that venue completely. This is the 23rd century after all.
↑ ↑ Agreed. We completely enjoy our Curved 60" smart TV above fireplace sitting on its mantel. ..
.... With Netflix, Hulu, Starz and Amazon prime really see no reason to go to a Movie.
.....With 1000's of Channels to Surf sometimes the same old same old is the go to.
.....Heck if I'm here quiet I turn on Black Sheep Squadron just to watch the F4U Corsair of WW II
.....I suppose those old planes came from the Confederate AF? They did have 3 blade Civilian props.
..... I would have thought when they showed a fighter sitting there it would have a fake 4 blade prop on it.
.....Then I noticed that there were some with what looked like 4 blade combat props.
.....The wake up call is the prices at the Cash Register for Groceries. I recently read an article about
.....Junk food disabilities 2 ! We also have around 400 movies on DVD in our library & "Woodstock"
.....There are so many good series if ya like action, 24 Hours, Alias etc. Very realistic Special Arts etc.
