We recently had the opportunity to spend quite a bit of time in our Cirrus 820 due the recent blizzards. As we were driving around town we both noticed a over-heated brake pad smell coming from the truck. Loaded, wet, we are at 3040 lbs according to the local CAT scale. Anyone have a similar issue or have a recommendation on upgrading the pads? The truck has less than 12,000 miles. Thanks!
Ran a 2018 F350 CC 6.7 Lariat with and AF 811 and NL 811 for two years without any issues with brakes. Sold it for current rig at 65k and the pads were still good. I'd take it in as ^^^ said above.
Since you have the gas engine, you can't blame the smell on a stinky regen or DEF. Get an infrared thermometer to check the actual temperature of the hub and rotor. Raise the tire off the ground and spin it by hand. Too much resistance (compared to the other tires) is a red flag.
Are you driving with two feet? I've seen that. I think it's kind of hard to do with the modern vehicles because the system will limit the engine output because the brakes are on.
We had that problem last year loaded down heavy with camper and pulling the 23' boat on our F350. Fortunately, we were close to a town and a repair shop when we smelled and noticed it. RF caliper sticking was the problem and they had to replace it. We had to wait for a couple of hours for them to get the part in from the Ford dealer in the "big city" 25 miles away, but they were troopers and got us back on the road. What really bugged me was that it drove straight down the road and didn't favor or drag to the right.
A few years ago we had a problem with the LR drum brake on our 96 F250. That turned out to be a problem with the Emergency - parking brake cable. It had a bur or broken strand that would hang up and keep it from fully releasing. We had had both brake cables replaced just a week before, so it was brand new. Just had an mfg. defect.
