ok i have the worst luck with alternators. heres the deal. i got the bronco and the system was working good. i put in a stereo system with the correct power caps to protect the system. but slowly the the voltage reading went down. at idle it would be 12.5 at the most and sometimes 11.5. if i would rev the motor it would go up to 14.1 but never higher. i picked up a new alternator and had it bench tested and it was reading at 14.5 put it in the truck and the charging system never read over 14. now its doing the same thing and dropping to 12.5 at idle and never going over 13.9 when i bring the rpms up. would this be a nother bad alternator???
i have a stock alternator in my 86 bronco 2 but puts well over 14 at idle and about 15.6-9 at rev. but for a stereo all i have is a ghetto pyramid cd player
What year is is? 84/5 or an 86-up? I would suspect the regulator.
Take the caps out of your system and see if it improves. If the caps drain faster than they can charge, they are just a drain on your electrical system.
You may have an alternator with too low amperage. 60 amp is normal for our BII's but adding more load to the system will cause you to buy a more powerful alternator. Look at 125 amp alternators.
