Abe, did you take pictures of those wires? Is there a place to go see what the original wires looked like? I hate the repop wiring kits and prefer to do wiring along the way it was done in the old days. There are some good sources of original style wire that is actually up to modern standards and rolls of the asphalt impregnated wire is available at NAPA. In my opinion its better looking than the plastic stuff I had in the kit that came with my current project. I think I recall Detroit went to making harnesses by wrapping them with what appears to be vinyl electrical tape but without the adhesive. I'm still wondering when all that happened. Maybe I can find the answer on the HAMB.
The wiring on my 54 was shot. I replaced it in 1999. I ordered the original style wiring harness from Mid Fifty. That was 1999. I don't know if they still have it.
I actually found the wiring diagram in the pack of the service manual along with the color of the wires. I used the faux cloth covered wire on my 40 tudor and my 28 roadster. I got some of the wire from Sacramento Vintage Ford but then I found a cheaper place. I dont remember where. I was surprised to find that NAPA carries the asphalt impregnated tubing.

So it sounds like they made the change in '56, because the three trucks my fam has are all plastic except for a couple circuits(horn I think)
