2022 F350 was backing out of garage and mirror got hung between garage door rail and truck.
When it would auto unfold it would keep opening to about 120° rather than normal 90°.
Tried resetting, opening/closing, everything I could find to do with no luck.
ford quoted $2000 for a new mirror assembly.
well I tore it down and found the issue. Nothing was broken. There are 2 vertical rods about 1.5” long on the top and bottom inside where the pivot points are.
when the mirror gets hyper extended the rods, which have about 1/4” slide ability, slide outward I guess to prevent damage.
the rods did not reengage, causing the mirror to not know to stop at 90°.
simply take a flat head screwdriver and hammer and tap them, they snap back in place. Fixed!!!
hope this helps the next person who isn’t paying attention backing out of their garage at dark.
I can confirm this fixed the problem I was facing, same scenario backing up and hyperextended my drivers mirror and wouldn't stop when opening until it was pointed at the front of the truck. Standard mirror recalibration didn't work. Took it all apart and pushed those pins back in place. The mirror now stops although it makes some funky noises, probably because I might have broke a few plastic clips taking it apart on the arms, I think it is catching the plastic somewhere just not sure I will take it apart again as I would likely be pushing my luck and break something else. Just saved me $1400 for a new mirror. I did run into an issue with the BLIS and Cross traffic dropping errors when I started the truck for the drivers door. Used Forescan to clear the error and recalibrated. Everything works now. Thanks for the write up

Glad it worked for you as well. Those mirrors are stupid pricey
Thank you rhino_160, I need to do this fix but I’m confused about how you got to the interior part of the arm to access the hinge and pins. Do you have to take apart the entire mirror like in your photo? And if you do, how do you open up the arm area that has the pens? I watched all the disassembly videos I could online and cannot find that part.
