WAS ODOMETER SET BACK ???

my neighbor just bought from a Generic Dealer a 2019 Ford f-150 gas that has 28,500 miles on it.

looking inside the hood the shock & coil spring was changed (all shinny bolts ) on the drivers side. The hole that the top of it fits into
is larger that the strut and its moving around slightly 9even with tight bolts)

Looking on the other side the the strut is tight in the hole .
This leads me to believe the strut is after market .

so if the millage is correct at 28,500 why didn't the previous owner go to Ford and have it replaced under warrantee, unless
it was past the 36,000 mile point and out of warrantee.
Seems like the dealer turned back the clock somewhat.

is there any way to get service info from ford or connect to the trucks computer.

The 3 year / 36k mile bumper to bumper warranty was up on my ‘19 in November ‘21. Might be the same case here with a low mileage truck timed out of warranty already. I doubt the odometer has been changed but suppose anything is possible.

You think the mileage was rolled back because of that? Do the control arms look new? The original shock could have been damaged and not covered by warranty, such as a hard curb or pothole strike or it could have been repaired due to a collision. It shouldn't be hard to determine if the strut is aftermarket. There are three 13mm nuts on top of the shock that need to be tightened. It's super simple to do, you might need to put some washers under them. Brand new take off struts are on eBay and Craigslist cheap. People take them off to put leveling and lift kits on.

That most likely indicates some sort of damage, from a pothole, crash, etc. It won’t always show up on a history report, but might be worth checking. What else is new on that side of the front end?

only that one front strut is new , definetly an after market.

So a friend of mine is going through a similar situation on his wife's 2019 Expedition. In their case the front struts are both leaking. Apparently a common issue for the 2018-2020 F150's and Expedition's. According to his Ford dealer struts are covered under the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty. But on these trucks Ford classifies these struts as shocks. And as per Ford's warranty shocks aren't covered under the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty. Needless to say that he isn't happy with the denial as he too is a automotive technician and as he stated everything about how these front "shocks" are the text book definition of a front strut. So it could very simply be that simple.

There are so many better options out there than what Ford puts on these trucks. In my opinion the strut is too soft. I recently put Eibach coilovers on and I’m very happy with them.
