Hello all. I know this has been addressed in an earlier thread but.... my 64 F-100, 2 wheel drive with the T-98 four speed needs a 17 tooth speedo driven gear. This part is all steel approximately 3 1/4 inches long. I had the speedo head repaired and supposedly re-calibrated by a local reputable long time in business shop. Now it registers about 5mph slow, so I would like to swap my 18 tooth gear for a 17 tooth gear. Does anyone know of some obsolete trans. parts sources? My source has since closed up shop (Valley Gear) up in Washington state.
Thanks in advance for any clues.
Thanks for redirecting me down to ND's earlier post. From his information it appears I am out of luck for a 17 tooth type 5 driven gear as they appear to only range from 18 through 21 tooth. (currently running the 18 tooth).
He also stated that there were 3 different drive gears (6, 7, and 8 tooth count), I wonder if changing them to less teeth would solve my problem; or it might be too much of a ratio change and really mess with the accuracy??
Disappointed that the speedo shop couldn't dial this in a little better after 3 trips. Needle is smooth and ODO functions, just 5mph slow, however.
Will do for now as I pretty much know what 35, 40, 45 mph feels like by the seat of pants driving; and I also have a speedo app on the phone for going through photo radar areas.
Thanks again for the reply, Happy New Year!
Chris
