new to this page so here goes, gonna be long and you wont believe it. Ive got a 2016 F-250 77,000 miles, extended warranty til 106,000. Had famous clunk noise when coming to a stop, 2nd to first every time. Went to dealer, dealer says oh no thats not supposed to do that, I said good and left it with them. Two weeks go by, they call and say its fixed, needed a reprogram, never left the parking lot, still doing the same thing, turned around went back in test drove with service manager, his words, oh hell thought we fixed it. Left it another week, replaced solenoid. Picked up truck, never left the parking lot, test drove with service manager, his words, oh hell thought we fixed it. Left it with them again, 3 months total transmission rebuild. Picked the truck up, you guessed it, never left the parking lot same issue. Dealer had engineer come down, 😂 engineer said put a new (remanufactured) transmission in it, so they did. 4-1/2 months, replaced every part in the original transmission, installed a reman. Transmission, you guessed it, still have same clunk coming to a stop. Dealer said I would just have to live with it. Ive driven 20 of these trucks and cant find another one that does it. Any body found a fix yet. I hear and feel it no matter if windows are up, radio on, window down, all the time.
I have a 2nd to 1st click when coming to a stop. There was an older thread with some recent posts discussing it...anyway, I have not seen any fix posted. I think it is accepted as being normal. If I stumble across those threads I'll post the links, although it sounds like you may have already read of others experiencing the same concern.
Here is that thread, it didn't draw any replies involving any sort of fix.
Appreciate the feedback, just can’t believe that two dealers act like it’s not normal to put that much effort into trying to resolve if it’s normal. Didn’t like the final answer that I would have to live with. Still got warranty, just didn’t want the warranty to run out it it goes to hell in a hand basket if you know what I mean, thanks again

It is a little weird that the dealer would acknowledge it as being an issue, put all that time and effort into it, then give up and say live with it. I would say the transmission is good to go at this point, and if it is the transmission that makes the sound, after all that has been done, it must be somewhat normal. Did the dealer verify the sound to be from the transmission? To me, in my truck it sounds like it's from the transmission, but some in the threads have mentioned possibly transfer case.
I've held off going to the dealership, instead just living with it for now. It would be nice to find that there is a fix, but at this point it seems to be more of just an annoyance rather than a serious concern....still hoping that's all it is.
I drive the truck daily and have driven over long distances with no issues, but I can’t believe that there are a few of us out there that have this issue that can’t be resolved and no vehicle has been built since Henry Ford was making them has ever made this noise. I’m gonna try one more dealer this week just because I have warranty and they all say it shouldn’t be doing that, so I guess it just annoying to hear and feel before stopping
