Saw a slight leaking part here in pic....not even sure what line it is. Anyone know? I cinched up the clamps a bit. Wet but no serious leak...what part is this accordion rubber thing?
Magnafine inline filter. They were popular once upon a time for trans and power steering filters. Inexpensive and easy to install, but later fell out of favor with the cool kids.
I think the consensus was not enough filtering capacity for transmission use, followed up by the 'pappy's '63 ran forever without no filter on the steering so it must be a gimmick' crowd.
There were a few failures, mostly leaks, and a handful of reports of blowouts I think from bad hose barbs but it's been years so I could be wrong.
Location in the pic, I'd guess that's installed on your trans cooler line. https://magnefinefilters.com/
I can't say for certain, but it does sound familiar. I haven't had one of these since the early 2000's on my bronco ps line.
Come to think of it, may have been the full size bronco forum that had all the drama about these.
I never personally had any issues, I just never bought another preferring a proper spin-on filter for whatever helps me feel better with a filter on it.
Yep Magnefine filter for the transmission. First one I put on seeped oil just like that, but the second one stayed dry. I put it on the line to the 6.0 trans cooler. Mount it so you can easily check it from the wheel well. If the trans goes bad the filter should protect the oil cooler so I can reuse it. Otherwise gotta replace the cooler too.
