Flat towing

Anyone flat tow behind their RV? Looking for some advise on what vehicle to buy. I kinda like Jeeps or older (pre 2015) AWD Honda CR-V 's. Any recommendations appreciated. Prefer smaller then F150 or full size SUV. 4WD or AWD necessary. Manual transmission is OK.

We have towed both CRVs and now tow a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. Both are easy to tow!

I like the Jeep option for the open roof. Especially when driving in scenic areas where you have to look 'up' to appreciate the view.

the jeep does the best at flat towing, put the trans in 3rd, transfer case in N and unlock the steering wheel

I've flat towed one Explorer and a couple of Jeep TJ Wranglers. The Jeep is, IMO, the easiest to set up and tow. The wife liked the Jeep as a DD better than the Explorer.

Jeep manual has instructions. CRV is even simpler as no transfer case to mess with. Both tow easily. Just preference.

I don't have personal experience with it, but I think if you're on this forum the obvious answer is a new Bronco. It may not be in the budget range you were considering though, since it is probably a bit more than an older CRV or Jeep.

Get a Jeep with a manual shift transfer case so you have neutral to flat tow in.

I agree, lots of folks have good luck towing Jeeps. Part of this equation is what you tow with and where you tow it.

While you CAN flat tow a Super Duty, and there is at least one forum member that does it behind his motorhome, that's not the direction I would go. If I had a motorhome, I would be looking at the lightest, easiest to tow vehicle, whatever that is.

Has to be one with a manual shift transfer case.

Depends on the drivetrain configuration. Will the gearboxes be properly lubricated?

There are lots of towable vehicles, some just easier than others.
