truck will run for about 20 to 30 minutes then just quits. No spitting or sputtering. Just dies. Then have to let it sit forever before it restarts.
This has been going on for about a yr and was happening when I tuned it up as well

Was it working properly before you tuned it up?
The folks that know about this sort of thing don't often visit the "New Member Introductions (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum23/)" forum. You should post over in the "1987 - 1996 F150 & Larger F-Series Trucks (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum28/)" forum to get some answers going.
Be sure to include an answer to my question when you do, as well as what engine your truck has and a list of what you've done to tune it up.

Solutions are to pull the distributor, and disassemble the distributor, and replace the pip sensor, OR buy a complete, new distributor. Be careful thou, sometimes the new/rebuilt distributors are assembled with low end components that fail after a short time.
Rockauto has replacement motorcraft pip sensors (they call it 'distributor pick up coils' which is a GM term) for $44 and you can't get a better brand then that.
