Ford Discontinuing "Sync Services"

Just received the following E-Mail letting me know Ford is discontinuing Sync Services. This is disappointing, while I don't use all the features of Services I use the "Ford Destinations" mobile app a lot to send map coordinates to the navigation system.

Has anybody else received this? Have you heard of any replacements to Sync Services?

We want to let you know about this important change to your account.

Hi Raymond,

Ford has made the important decision to start phasing out SYNC® Services. Starting July 1
st, 2017, the ability to purchase or renew a paid SYNC Services subscription will no longer be available. However, those with an active or complimentary subscription will still be able to use all the features of SYNC Services until their subscription expires or August 1st, 2018, whichever comes first. Regardless of subscription status, SYNC Services will no longer be available starting August 1st, 2018.

We'd like to thank you for being a part of the SYNC Services experience that we've brought to Ford customers over the years. Although SYNC Services is being phased out, owners can still take advantage of the many features available through SYNC, such as AppLink
® for SYNC and SYNC 3, and other services offered by SiriusXM® Traffic and Travel Link®. If you aren't already aware of these features, click here to see what options are available for your specific vehicle.

For additional updates and to manage your subscription, please visit the SYNC Services page on the Owner website.

We appreciate you being a member of the Ford family and look forward to continuing to improve your experience!

Well THAT sucks. With my 2016 Taurus, I can ask for points of interest, and it doesn't ever dial out to SYNC services like my 2013 did.

Your 2016 F350 has what, SYNC 3? Or SYNC 2?

Sync 2. Some Ford 2016 Fords came equipped with Sync 3, but not the Superduties.

For those who are affected by this info, sounds like Ford is trying to get those people to purchase a new vehicle that has already has SYNC 3 in it.

A much cheaper alternative would be to do a SYNC 2 OR MFT conversion to SYNC 3.

I`ve seen the conversion kits and they run between 2000-2500 dollars but that`s much cheaper than a new truck.

Or, just don't use "Sync services". If you need to program a destination, look it up on your phone, enter it into the navigation system and be on your way. A lot cheaper than a $2000+ conversion.

I know it sucks, but I bet the traffic on it was so low they realized only a handful of people were using it and it wasn't worth maintaining. If you're paying millions of dollars to maintain a system that 1% of Sync users use, there's no way I'd keep paying for it either.

To be honest, I only used it once or twice a year. When the subscription was up, I didn't miss it one bit.

I got the same message and still trying to understand what it means. Does that mean the navigation system will not work? you go to web page and it just gives a simple list ut no solutions.

It means you can't use the dial-up option of calling into Ford and setting a destination or POI (point of interest) using voice command.

Navigation will still work, Sync will still work, but it's the dial-in "services" that will be discontinued.

Thank you. That is better news than where I was worried Ford was going.

So it is only the operator assisted (real person) services that are being discontinued?

Will the Android/iPhone "Destinations" App still function? It uses "Services" but not a Live Person.

I take it to mean anything that you have to dial-in to get - It's been a while since I used it, but even the "Destinations" app required you to dial-in with the cell phone bluetooth'd to the car, right?

That "dial in" part requires "Services" - and if you can't renew the subscription, that part will no longer work.

My only experience has been with my 2013 Taurus with Sync 2, and my 2016 Taurus with Sync 3.

I'm not sure if the later versions of Sync 2 allowed sending a destination through USB or Bluetooth from the phone to Sync, but I don't think it did.

I replied to the E-Mail I received from Ford telling me that Sync Services is being phased out. I asked the following:

"Will I still be able to use the “Sync Destinations” app on my Android Phone to send directions to my Sync 2 Navigation system after Sync Services is phased out?"
Their response was priceless:

"Dear Raymond Louks,

Thank you for your email.

The SYNC Destinations app is not compatible to use with your built in navigation system. Even though the app is being phased out with the services, you will still be able to make hands-free phone calls, listen to Bluetooth Audio, and take advantage of all of the other wonderful features SYNC has to offer.

If you have any other concerns, please contact us again.

In addition to email you may also contact us via the following:

·Phone – 800-392-3673; options 1,3,1,2.
·Live Chat – Click on the link in the lifeline section on the SYNC homepage Welcome to Ford Owner | Official Ford Owner Site
Regards,

In-Vehicle Technology Team
Ford Motor Company"

Now I find out that the Android App "Sync Destinations" is not compatible with my system after using it since I bought the truck!
Rest assured though I can still use Hands Free calling, bluetooth, and other wonderful features that Sync has to offer.

Last Ford for me

Late but still fuming. I drive a lot for work and taking relatives to doctors. Used Sync Services call and the phone app everyday until it was discontinued. Entering addresses manually is massively more time consuming and causes delays. I tried asking service department for a solution, but they said buy a newer vehicle. Why? Just to have that service discontinued as well? Not even a 3rd party option. Sync Services was one of the top reasons for buying my 50k Lariat. My wife’s 2014 Lexus still has the equivalent service to this day. But keep making full payments. Sorry for the inconvenience. Never again.

Didn’t want to start a new thread so here should work. Sync 4, in the 2022 Duty’s, where does one find the version of Sync that is being operated? I can’t find it anywhere. Need to know version so I can make some ForScan changes

Is there a setting to turn on a number for RPMS in the middle of the RPM graphic dial like the speed does?
