Question How do I make a Lincolin Locker?

Hi,
I am considering making a lincolin locker rather than buying a full spool. What are the advantages of a store bought spool?

Has anyone made a lincolin locker? If so, what parts in the diff did you weld together? Any how to advise? I want to weld a Dana 44.

Thanks,
Clayton

Ive done 4, and never had one break yet.

DO NOT just weld the spiders together.

Take the two spider gears out, and through them away, then weld the side gears to the case. This way you can get more penatration into the case, and a longer bead. Strengthwise, a full spool is stronger, but a lincoln locker is cheaper.

But remember, its only as strong as your welds.

Your best bet is a mini-spool. $26 on ebay shipped to my door. It's easy to install, no permanent mods, cheap, and can be removed easily.

Ya can't beat it.

I put a Trac-Lok in the front Dana 44 but I will weld my rear 8.8 Ford. You say to not use the spider gears and just to weld the side gears to the case? Will the heat welding cause the cast iron case to crack? What type of welding rods should I use? Any tips? I plan on doing this ASAP.

Thanks,
Clayton
