I've got a 22 Lariat, and I've never had a locking tailgate, and it is annoying me having to unlock when ever I want to open it.
Is there a way to make it not lock?
Honestly I love having the locking tailgates on trucks today. If I'm getting in the back, chances are I've just got into or just got out of the cab, so I either need to unlock it anyway OR I haven't locked it yet, so it's really a non-issue.
Disabling auto-locking won't stop the tailgate from locking like OP wants - whenever the truck locks, whether auto lock or with the push of a button, the tailgate locks. Pretty much the ONLY way to stop it is to unplug the lock actuator...but if you do that in my area you won't have a tailgate anymore. I can't tell you how many fingerprints I've found on my tailgate handle that aren't mine.
he said "its annoying to have to go unlock it", that usually means you get out of the truck after having backed out of the garage, or parking it, and go to open the tailgate which is locked, then you have to back to the door and unlock it. Disabling auto lock stops this from happening, its never locked unless you manually lock the truck. I had the same frustrations.

Here's where having an electric fence charger attached to the handle would be an interesting addition to the security system.
