Hello all. I'm currently having an issue with my 96 f250 7.3. the truck is stock other then exhaust, filter, hydra tuner, and recently the fpr BB mod. Normally run on the 80hp performance tune from php
Issues is the truck is only making 10psi of boost max and 1psi at 75mph 2500 rpm and produces zero black smoke. At first I would think it's a boost leak but wouldn't that make the truck smoke a lot with the extra fuel and lack of boost. The truck also has somewhat high egt which makes me also think it's getting more fuel then boost, I see 1000 degree mildly accelerating up a hill.
I'm new to diesels and with the winter weather and no garage I can't spend hours testing parts and changing them. Does anyone have a good place for me to start or more knowledge on it.
extra fuel would make smoke or boost, not EGTs
have a scanner?
good to get one and only like 20 on amazon
air filter new?
do you have orange boot on turbo? if yes replace ASAP as bottom gets torn allowing dirt in.
intake boost leaks are easy to look for, get a fernco coupling to fit turbo inlet and connect to air compressor set to about 20 PSI and spray with dish soap n water mix
leaf blower on exhaust works well and then soap up those uppies and see them foam
check drivers side manifold at uppie for broken bolt
Good idea with the leaf blower to check the up pipes. I'll give that a try while checking for boost leaks with a air compressor fitted to turbo inlet. It already has the beveled up pipes so hoping they are good.
