Well I will chime, being that I am on here once in a while. I am not sure what changed on the normal/old white set up other than some color, font size changes (bold black icons in areas that do not need it IMO) and I just do not like it, please leave well enough alone...please.
I am not sure what prompted the need to change or upgrade what seems to be working just fine. If it ain't broke, do not go and try to fix it. Cause then it will be broke. I toggled on the dark mode...and then promptly turned it right back off. I visually get along just fine with the white back ground. I do go on another site and they have a none white/ 2 color darker background. See example. https://classicbroncos.com/forums/
And when you highlight and copy and past information that you might want to save, when you paste it, it stays that color. That issue is probably because I am a computer handicapper.
It was new, so I tried it. For about 2-3 seconds it was interesting. Then it got turned right back off. Not a fan. I liked dark mode on a screen back when I was doing service work at night and it wouldn't mess with your vision when you were trying to drive. I don't FTE and drive, so it just makes it harder to read with no real benefit.
Add me to the list of those liking the "old" version---I liked that when I've not yet read posts within a thread or that were new were identified by a yellow band in the date posted. These black icons aren't helpful at all.
Another issue with the dark mode. If someone posts in dark font, you can't see what they posted. Should be a way to default dark mode to use a lighter font.

this typically happens when someone has cut and pasted and the font colour is included in their post. there isn’t an easy way to overcome this, but we are working on it!

Hmm, I'm not sure this post was cut and pasted and is what triggered my post about it. See below both light mode and dark mode of the same post. Originally I viewed it in dark mode and thought ok, battery light what?!?!?!??? Then I switched back to light mode to take a peek and saw the entire post.
please link me to the post. or, you can quote it and while in the editor, tap the view source button and you'll surely see the font colour is defined within the post from a copy/paste.

Here is what I get when I copy and past from another site that runs the darkness.
Yesterday I hung my frame on a homemade rotisserie and today I took all of the measurements to make sure that the frame is straight and square before I paint it.
Now if I copy and past that above statement in a word doc, is has the black background and lighter color wording. Maybe it is just me and my lack of computer-ing skills.
I wonder why someone would take the time to type out a question and then copy/paste it.
There is a defined font color (#333333) in the post referenced above. As Robb pointed out, this usually occurs when someone copies and pastes text from another document/source into the post editor. Of course this could also occur if someone uses the font color menu in the editor. Hard-coded font colors are unaltered between light and dark mode, so all these things result in such an example.
I know it was not all that unusual for someone to type a message into their word processor, or even email client, for the spell check capabilities. Today, browsers have that built-in. Or if typing a long message and not wanting to lose it.
