If the tube is kinked, you might try to stick something round and of a slightly smaller diameter than the tube's ID through the tube and warm the tube with a heat gun to get it back near its original shape.

Just an idea. Have done this with kinked plastic fuel line on my '86.

So, slow filling of the fuel tank is a result of the inner vent tube being kinked or disconnected? I thought the "roll-over" valve that sits on top of the fuel tank had something to do with it. Should the "roll-over" valve just be cleaned and reused, or are they even available anymore?

3+ years ago you could get the valve as i replaced them both on my flare side.
They have nothing to do with how the tank fills only that inner tube.

Thanks for confirmation Dave. Apparently, LMC currently has the 1-port vent valve. Listed as #4 here:

On my rear tank the vent tube stuck out from the filler tube about 6 inches. Before installing the tank I marked the vent tube in two places with a silver sharpie. I marked the spot on top where the vent tube was seated behind the top baffle and I marked the spot where the tube extended out of the filler hose when fully seated in the holder on the tank. With the filler hose and vent tube installed on the tank side I tied a line to the filler tube using a clove hitch. Then threaded the rope through the path of the filler hose. Then as the tank was lifted into place I pulled the filler hose into place with the rope. The marks on the vent tube verified that A, the vent tube was seated at the tank and B as I assembled the filler hose to the top pipe that the vent tube was fully seated behind the upper baffle. I couldn't actually see the top mark as it was seated as the filler hose gets connected but I could see that it would be as it all came together. Another tip is to always mark the orientation of the filler hose with respect to the tank so that you get the filler hose on in the same orientation as original. Trying to reorient the filler hose when partially installed is a fool's errand.

The whole idea is to keep the air coming out of the tank from interfering with the gas going in. As the fuel is pouring into the tank from the station nozzle, the fuel displaces air in the tank. It has to get out of there. If the air gets in the fuel stream it will start gulping and splashing and cut the station nozzle off.

You could try the setup from the later model 90's trucks. On the older trucks, the fuel went down the large pipe, the air was supposed to come out of the small pipe. The later trucks they reversed this, the fuel goes down the small pipe, the air comes out the large hose.

Yep that's the puppy. Think thst is where I got them from.
1 of mine the hose nipple broke off and thinking the other could I replaced them both.
I also did the gaskets as 1 valve fit loose in it.
No leaks in 3+ years.

Years back I damage my vent pipe and left it out.I suffered with the slow fill for a while and installed a vent. I removed the roll over valve ,took it apart ,left out the small barrel,(which stops the fuel from spilling in a roll over ) and reinstalled with a hose running up to my vent door.Drilled a hole to the right of my fill up neck (plastic) installed a breather filter (end of hose ) TR

Finally got everything done on the tank. I had a friend install the filler hose, but when they installed it they put it in backwards so the inner fill piece was getting pinched. Had another shop look and they are the ones who said it was on backwards. Haven’t had a problem since

Good to hear you got it fixed. The fuel pump clicking OFF when filling our Bullnose trucks is maddening.

X2

I got to say I have only the pump shut off when filling 1 time since the truck was back on the road.
I was like why now as it has worked fine for a year or 2.
I then flipped the tank switch to find it was full and I forgot to use it
I can pump the gas in as fast as it will go in both tanks.
