Can anyone identify this part that fell of the underside of my 1980 F-150 after a trip to the car wash to clean the underside. It is foam rubber 5 1/2 in by 5 1/2 in by 2 in thick. It has a 2 in diameter hole in the middle.
You have a manual transmission by chance?
It looks like the part the fits around the stick tower befoure the pan is bolted down.
Kinda like a seal to keep fumes coming in around the tower & pan.
Dave ----
Your are correct, looks like it fits up there, now just to find a a replacement... thanks again for the help... just starting a long slow restoration of this great truck.
Neither of my trucks had that part I only know of it as it came with a NP435 trans I bought used for my truck.
It was in pretty bad shape so I did not install it.
I also did not try and look for a replacement so if you find something post up where you got it.
BTW I don't get any smells from not having it.
I have carpet and rubber shifter boots.
Dave ----
Mine had deteriorated and would fall apart if you touched it so I just removed it. The condition was the same with ones I came across in the JY's.
I ended up using the dense foam from "still good" part of a worn out truck seat, after cutting it down to size (actually I made it a little bigger and taller than the original piece and tapered it some to fit up into the base of the shifter boot a bit). It has held up well so far . It's also easy and cheap to replace whenever the time comes but I doubt it will any time soon
I went to the transmission shop and they said they see this all the time, can never find replacements, so they make their own. I found this kneeling pad at Ace Hardware, it is the right consistency high density foam and it is
Washable, resists industrial chemicals, oil and grease
Will not mold and mildew if stored wet
So I got one and cut out two pieces and glued them together, and I think this will stuff down in there just fine....
Thanks for the update but for me to now put that in place I would have to pull the rug up and that may take pulling the seat and then the pan.
I think I am good the way it is but if I ever pull it apart I now know what I can use.
