Gas Gauge
Recently purchased a 55 f100. The truck is in good shape just trying to fix a few small things. One is the fuel gauge. Goes to full when started. Original 6v system but was changed to 12v. Will I get the same reading with voltage changed? Kinda planning on replacing sending unit but wondering if I need a new 12v or original 6v. Thanks Cliff

Where the gauges swapped out for 12 volt versions or a 12 to 6 volt converted used on them?

You can use a 6 or 12 volt fuel sender. The sender is just a potentiometer and sends the correct ohm signal to the gauge. Just make sure the the sweep on the sender meets the same as the gauge wants to read full or empty correctly.

Not sure if gauges were swapped out. How would I go about figuring that out? Thanks

Is there 12 volt going directly into your gas gauge or there some type of 12 volt to 6 volt step down?

My 6v-12v conversion used the 6v gauge and sending unit and read correctly.

My "56" has a 55 tank and sender. When I put it all together with 12 volt dash/gauge for 56 it works!! so I would just try it and see, may work fine.....
