SPARK
FUEL
COMPRESSION
You need those three things. Isolate which one you do not have.
By "won't start" what do you mean? Cranks, but will not fire? Won't crank? Fires intermittently but won't stay running?
Also have the same issue, turns over no start, new fuel pump and filter, distributor, plugs new gas. It sounds better than when I first got it trying to start, does make a new like gasping sound occasionally when trying to start.
If it won't run on starting fluid it's probably an ignition problem. Even engines with basically no compression will run on starting fluid.
I'd bet a lot of money that you screwed something up when replacing all that ignition stuff. Distributor in backwards, plug wires one-off, connector forgotten, etc, etc.
But I didn’t replace anything on the ignition, checked grounding straps, good. Checked plug and firing sequence all good, just turns over and goes and goes, with some ether it gets excited like it wants to fire off and then goes back to trying to start.
Pulled the ecm out yesterday cause that is what the mobile mechanic said it was. Has anyone attempted to rebuild and solder new capacitors onto these things? I’ve seen some videos of guys doing it.
