My 22 has developed a slight clunking noise when the bed shifts from left to right (side to side). Sounds like something loose but no noise when going over bumps. I recently added a sway bar but completely disconnected that and still same noise. A little web research is showing the it might have something to do with the spring pack. Anyone else having this sound?
Upon further investigation it’s definitely the leaf springs, it’s the middle and the top spring that have play in them. Since my driver’s seat heating/cooling stopped working I’ll wait to see if anything else happens before bringing to the dealer.
Thank you but no everything is stock. I did torque the U- bolts a little more. But there is slight movement between the middle and upper springs. That translates to a clunking noise that can be felt in the spring pack on both sides.
While reading about this issue I found a fix on another forum. The guy had the same issue as me. Ford recommended replacing the entire spring pack. But the Ford tech basically removed the rear components, I.e rear bumper, shocks to verify the cause. Once he isolated it to the springs he loosened the rear shackles and retighten, resolving the issue. On my truck I leaned in over the rear tire and used my back against the fender to lightly rock the truck. I touched the spring pack and could feel the clunking. So today I loosened the rear bolt going through the the spring (both sides) and retighten. The issue is now gone. This was an issued that occurred after some miles were put on.
