I have a 2000 F250 4x4 and I have a clunking noise in the left front of the vehicle at slow manuvers. It is more aggravating than anything. I cannot feel anything in the steering, but it sounds like it is coming from the left front wheel-well. Does anyone know about this, or have heard about this before.
I get the same thing from time to time. Usually when backing in to my driveway with my wheels turned to the right. I can't make it happen at will though. It seems as though it happens more on a quick turn rather than slow, sort of like the stress of leaning causes it. Just last night it happened, and when it did I stopped, moved the steering wheel back and forth, and it clunked on each turn. It's a really loud clunk and definitely not normal. It's always the left wheel. I actually hope it gets worse so I can demonstrate it to the dealer. I'll let you know if I get anywhere.
I think I have my lugs in auto, but yes only when I am turning at low speeds. It is so aggravating--ahhh! I wonder what it could be clunking. My friend had a f150 4 door and he heard the same thing. They told him that it was because of his step bars. I have some also, but I cant believe that they would cause it.
I do not know if your truck has leaf springs in front but if it does I would look at the spring shackles on the back end of the front springs. If the side plates or the spring shackle pins and bushings get worn they will do what you describe. What happens is the spring slides from side to side in turns and the noise is when the spring leaf hits the shackle side plate. I had a similar sound in my '95 F250 and my '83 F150 (both 2 wheel drive with coil front springs) and both turned out to be the lower shock bolt on the left side. The bolt seemed tight but was just loose enough the shock could shift side to side with a little inspiration from small bumps in the road. I just cranked on it with a socket and long breaker bar until the side play was gone. Hope one of these helps - just one man's opinion.

Thanks alot, I will try that tonight. It has become so aggravating. The dealer says it has something to do with my step bars I had put on, but I cannot see how. Anyway, they have not been very helpful at all!! Anyway, thanks again.
