Seems to me the 16.5 tires are a whole lot cheaper than the 16's, I know my BFG's were about 50% more at the time. I wouldn't think any modifications would be necessary as long as the bolt pattern is correct since it gives you more clearance around the rotors - right?
If you plan on going to the Desert or Beach and you want to deflate your tires for the SAND conditions, the 16.5 has NO INNER BLOCKING BEAD....AND YOU MAY HAVE BIG PROBLEMS.
I can get you a smokin deal on either a set of Weld stonecrusher 16.5x9.75 or some Eagle 058's in 16x10. Both sets of these are just gathering dust in my garage and I really want to get rid of them.
Nice to see this thread! I was just looking for some new wheels for my ride so I can have a set to run in the winter time. I've been having trouble finding a cheap set of 16x10x8 170s. Maybe now that I see that 16.5's will work, I have a larger selection to look at.
Any wheel that has the 8X170 mm lug bolt pattern will fit. You will need to ensure the backspacing is correct to prevent eccessive stress to the outer ends of the axle. I run 4.5" of backspacing and the tires fit the truck fine. Others can post their selection, but I'm sure 4.5" is the recommended.
