Hey fellas was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or Information I'm needing sum help troubleshooting my speedometer my 2003 7.3 automatic 4r100 speedo went out all together it was acting funny for a while I was having to be going down the road the speedo would not be working I would give the dash or face of the cluster a good smack or two and it would take off working fine until I would stop somewhere for a few and then repeat that process again when moving again... The odometer is working fine no issues and all other guages work also as they should just the speedo issue but now it has quit all together not even smacking the dash is working anymore... I don't have any trouble codes related to the abs system or anything, I have torque pro and the wheel speed sensor pids are showing a signal and working, and also when I first turn the ignition to start the truck the guages including speedometer all sweep to the right when key is turned..
any suggestions what the issue could be? Or how could I test the signal wire from abs module I believe it's black and grey wire to check for signal to speedometer in the cluster??
Does cruise control still work? When my speedometer gave me trouble it was very similar. Cutting out occasionally until finally quiting all together. Turned out to be the wires leading to the sensor in the rear differential. The hangers it runs through while transitioning from the frame to the differential wore through the the loom and insulation.

Thanks for your reply and help!! Yes sir my cruise control does still work correctly, the only thing I have that isn't in perfect working order is the esof system for the 4x4 I'm not sure if that could have anything to do with it I was leaning towards probably not but I've heard all kinds of far out possibilities even the 3rd brake light... I've come across sum information that I considered could be but not sure exactly what it is yet not whole lot info about it.... Stepper motor in the guages cluster I'm still searching about it idk I need to test the wiring from the abs module for a signal soon as I get a minute to take my dash out... I'm using torque pro app speedo pid and it's giving my speed and using both types by gps and thru the truck and they match so it's getting a signal but not to my dash guage
Stupid question but have you gone through the fuses w/ a multimeter yet? I know it doesn't sound like a fuse issue but the way completely unrelated systems can be riding the same fuse in these trucks keeps the possibility on the table. Heck double checking and cleaning as many grounds as you can find could do the job.
When I got my truck the speedo wouldn't work when it was cool for about 5 minutes, then it would growl some, then start working. Sometimes when it was growling a good thump on the dash would speed up the process! (the cruise worked at all times) I had another truck I was parting out, so I took apart the cluster on that one to see what made it work, there's a small motor for the speedometer that is soldered in. I took a motor out of it and soldered it into mine. Part of the process involves removing the needles for the various gauges so you kind of have to recalibrate those when you put them back on. Mine is a 2000, not sure if anything changed before they made yours.
Go through the diagnostic mode on the odometer. There is a selection for speed. I found when my speedometer went out, the rear diff sensor was working properly, and the odometer diagnostic was also able to see the speed. I replaced the gauge cluster and it has worked properly since.
