I've inherited my grandfather's 79 F250 which has been setting for many years. I can get it to fire up and run at idle. Gas pedal as no tension and is all the way to the floor. Can't turn the throttle by hand seems to be seized up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Everything seems to be connected correctly just can't get the throttle rod to turn.
Sounds like the carburetor is rusted and the linkage may be bent. It would be best to just replace the carb. 2150 clones are decent and widely available. Someone may suggest a Holley but it's more money and may need tuning.
I would just try to overhaul the carb first and free up the throttle plate
But then I have a carb cleaner basket and carb cleaner in a 5 gallon bucket in my garage
For those of you that don't... It may be cheaper to get a rebuilt carb from a parts store
AutoZone does have one gallon kits that might contain enough to soak your plate
And yes, your linkage is most likely bent and should be able to be unbent
Good luck
If it has been sitting for years as you say. Save yourself some misery and just buy another carb. Also don't try to run it until you are certain the gas tank, lines and all associated fuel system parts are clean. If you try to run it with a contaminated fuel system bad things will happen.
